A homeowner is rarely ever prepared for a water damage event. Whether it is because of a natural disaster or because of a major plumbing issue, they will just about always be very unexpected and catch you off guard. Many times plumbing breaks or home flooding because of natural disasters can happen in the middle of the night, on the weekend, or on a holiday. When water decides to flood your home for whatever reason, it works on no ones schedule bit its own.
If you have a flooding disaster at one of these inconvenient times, would you know who to call right away or would you be standing in your flooded kitchen trying to look up someone qualified in water damage issues at three in the morning, Christmas day, or Sunday? Would the company you choose have an emergency number to call and if you did would you get a live person or a recording telling you to contact them during regular business hours?
When your home is being flooded or has already been flooded it is always an emergency and you want to be sure that when you make that desperate call in the middle of the night or at any time that there will be someone available to talk to you and reassure that someone will be on there way to help you in as little as an hour. This is what a qualified water damage expert will be able to do.
When dealing with a flood issue in any home, the most important thing is to stop the water from coming in if possible and finding the fastest way possible to get it out and dried up. The time that water is inundating your home is crucial to the damage that can be prevented. The longer the water is down, the more damage there will likely be. Damage to the belongings in the home, the structure of the home, and the possibility for mold growth all multiply with the length of time the water is there.
When you have to call in a water damage team, you will want to know in advance that they will show up ready to access the damage and begin work immediately if at all possible. You will want to know that they have the latest and best equipment available for water removal, know how to help save your belongings, be willing to help get your belongings out if necessary, and help you put your things back in when the job is finished. What you want is a real professional team. So why not find a water damage specialist such as this before that midnight emergency happens?

Being just average people who do not have a specialized education in the fields of earth related issues such as global warming, the rising of the oceans due to glacial melting, and the decline of wildlife because of man made destruction, what can we actually believe is true and should we really be concerned with all these things? Well, if you prefer to act like an ostrich with your head buried in the sand, it is easy to ignore what many experts are warning us about.
For the rest of us who have enough common sense to realize that things are changing, what we really need to know is what if anything can we do to reverse some of the changes that appear to be happening so rapidly and more frequently everyday? We all know that we should learn to conserve more fuel, use less electricity, and probably be even more conservative with our food supply. We know that we need to avoid using chemical products where they can harm our yards, the air, the ozone, animal life, and especially our children. We are becoming a society that must stay aware of so many new threats to our very existence.
While there are earthquakes and fires springing up all over the world, there is also an increasing number of flooding events taking place. All of these natural disasters are destructive in their own way. Fires can start because of extremely hot and dry weather, but usually it will start small and grow larger. This can give firefighters enough time to respond and home owners to flee before there is a big threat of loss of life. Earthquakes will take many lives because it is unforeseen in all most all instances, but it is usually over in a matter of minutes, but with minor to major aftershocks to flow.
When Natural disaster water damage flooding occurs, sometimes people can be advised that there is a threat and have enough time to flee to safety. Many times however, flash flooding can occur with little or no warning at all in unexpected places. This has been the case for those who live in coastal areas where a hurricane comes ashore or even in the Midwest because of heavy rainfall for long periods of time. Water can stick around for a pretty good while after an area has become flooded unless adequate drainage is in place. The effects can be long lasting and horrendous to clean up and repair.
So, should we really be worried about the threat of constant and deadly looming disaster? It is always better to be safe than sorry, so when we live on an earthquake fault line, in a flood zone, or where there is a normal threat of wildfire, perhaps the best we can do is prepare for the worst and the best we can hope for is that all is not as bad as some predict.

Most incidents of water damage to a home are due to simple negligence instead of because of a flood or because you forgot and let the bathtub overflow. Negligence is one of the main causes of all homeowner’s insurance claims and as long as you take care of your property the way that you should, you can keep this kind of damage from occurring and keep the value of your home where you want it to be. If you remain constant and follow a few rules (and make sure the rest of your family does, too), you should not have a problem with water damage or mold in your home for a very long time.
The exterior of your home is obviously more likely to be water damaged by negligence than the inside, so there are a few things that you need to do out there first. Clean the rain gutters out as soon as the leaves are done falling in autumn, but an even better solution would be to purchase new gutters for your home that are covered so leaves cannot clog them. These are not very expensive and can save you a lot of time and effort every year.
After you make sure the gutters are cleaned out, you should check to see where the end of your downspouts are in relation to the base of your home. If you allow water to settle around your home’s foundation, it can eventually cause it to crack. You can combat this by piling up more dirt around the base of your home where any puddles of water appear after it rains and by making sure the water that comes out of your downspouts is flowing well away from the house.
Inside the house, you need to install an exhaust vent in any room of your house that stays moist, such as the kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room. These rooms are moist almost constantly and to keep mold from growing in there, you need to keep the humidity level down.
If the plumbing in your home is old, you will want to inspect it to see if it is in good repair, especially around the dishwasher and washing machine. The hoses need to be replaced on these items every 3 to 5 years if they are of good quality. Hoses that rupture will flood the room, especially if you are not at home when it happens. You want to clean this up at quickly as you can, but never use a heat source to dry the floor out, since it can cause the floor to buckle.
