Any time a tragedy strikes a family depending on what it is it can be very difficult to hold it all together. There has been a l lot of proof of this when all of the recent natural disasters from hurricanes and flooding has destroyed so many homes and the families that live in them. There are many of these families that suffered the devastation of hurricane Katrina that were able to put their homes and their lives back together because they had flood insurance that helped them to be able to repair and rebuild, but there were just as many more families that were not covered for natural disaster flooding and were left utterly homeless and helpless.
Unless you have personally ever been in a situation where your whole home was destroyed and everything or almost everything init, then you have no idea how devastating it can be to the parents and especially the children. To be evacuated quickly from the house you are used to being comfortable in to go to a shelter or the home of a family member or friend can be unsettling for a child, but when they learn they can never go home to their belongings and that familiar atmosphere, it can be traumatizing.
The real problems for these families begin when they have to call a shelter their home on a permanent basis until the parents can return to their old jobs or like with so many, have to find new ones. The kids might have to go back to a different school and wear clothes and shoes that did not even belong to them. All of their toys and maybe even their beloved family pet had to be left behind before the flood.
Although most children are resilient and will recover in time, it is still not an easy thing for the parents either. They have to worry about how all of the damage and upheaval has hurt their children and themselves. It can be horrible for parents that are used to supporting themselves and their home to suddenly have to be taken care of by strangers with no where of their own to go.
Many of these families actually had to relocate to other states and stay in shelters there because there was no more places for them to go in their home state. Over time these families have also built new lives for themselves, but it will still never erase the horror of what they had to live through because of a flood.

It is not very likely that the majority of us will ever experience what it is like to live through a powerful tsunami like those poor souls who did back in 2004. This is one of the most powerful tsunamis ever recorded in history and it destroyed so many lives as well as left millions homeless with no where to go. This horrible hazard delivered by Mother Nature has to be one of the worst disasters that the modern world has ever seen and what we did see was absolutely unbelievable.
The reason that tsunamis happen is when there is some force that disrupts the water and causes a rollicking wave that can literally travel for miles and miles. The cause of the 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean was an earthquake that was over a 9 magnitude. This is a tremendously powerful earthquake. Since it took place under the water, it caused a large bump, for lack of a better term, to rise up in the ocean that created the monster wave that eventually affected eleven different countries.
These people had no idea when they woke up that morning that before the day was over they would be living in a hell like existence. Everywhere the tsunami came ashore there was mass destruction of homes, businesses, and lives were lost. Livestock and people alike were simply swept away. The waves reached as far inland as six miles in places and that is a long way from the shore. The only people within the reach of the wave that had hope of survival were those that were in taller buildings that withstood the wave or some that were on more elevated ground. There were a lot who just got lucky and were able to keep from drowning as they were swept along with the water as it came in or receded.
The effects of this tsunami are still being overcome four years later. Many of the people that were so devastated were those who had little or nothing in the first place, but many more that did have homes or businesses are still struggling to recover. Money and supplies were sent by many other countries, but was no where near enough to get these places back to normal very quickly.
Just imagine if we were to experience a horrible tsunami on the shores of California that might be caused by an underwater earthquake near Japan. How in the world would we react to and survive such a devastating event? It would have economics effects nation wide, but as we are Americans, we would eventually recover and rebuild as damaging to us as it would be.

When we are running late for work we can tend to get in a big hurry and sometimes we try drive a little faster than we should to get there on time. We know this is not the best thing to do especially since it can also get us a speeding ticket or worse yet cause to get involved in a wreck that could very well be our fault. This kind of hurried up driving might not be as bad if you live in a rural area where there is limited traffic, but if the road conditions are bad it is just as unsafe.
Even when we are driving normally and are not in such a rush, certain weather conditions can always make driving more treacherous. Rain, snow, sleet, and even hail can make conditions just right to wreck or slide off the road into a tail spin even if we are trying to be careful. This is the very reason that keeping our car tires in good condition is a must. We sometimes do not give as much thought to the condition of our tires until a problem shows up like tread wire sticking through or we have a flat which is always an inconvenience.
Keeping the right amount of pressure in your tires can go a long way towards making your driving safer. When all the tires are balanced evenly, it makes it easier for your car or truck to keep all the tires on the road at the same time. The amount of tread that is on your tires also makes it safer to drive when the roads are standing in water. Everyone knows, or at least should, the dangers of driving too fast on roads that have standing water because it can actually make your tires not stick to the road and this is called hydroplaning. When your car begins to hydroplane it is really easy to lose control.
Sometimes the tires on a vehicle will not wear evenly and it is usually good to have them rotated so that they will have more even wear. This can help when driving on hazardous roads too. When your tires are about half way through their warranty, if they have one, you can take them into a tire shop and have them rotated. When you get this done they can also check the pressure and make sure it is the same all the way around if you do not do the checking yourself.
If you live in an area that is prone to get a lot of snow and ice, it might be a good idea to invest in tire chains. These chains fit around your tires and can be very useful when you have to drive on snowy or icy roads. They will probably be worth the investment if you get a lot of use out of them.
