Fires Set To Brazilian Rain Forests To Make New Farmland

Uncategorized No Comments

What can be done when a country that has possession of one of the most important natural resources in the world are destroying that resource to better their country? This is exactly what is occurring in Brazil and in other countries that have valuable rain forests. These rainforest are essential to the well being of our planet and they are being destroyed at an alarming rate for things like more farmland.

Brazil is clearing acres and acres of rain forests everyday to make room for more crops. They say that this is a necessary step to keep up with the demand for food sources in their country and in others. Brazil already produces more soy bean that any where else and they say it is not enough. They are setting fires to the beautiful rain forests to clear the land. The fires themselves are bad for our environment, but even worse for the overall health of the planet.

When a country owns the lands that they are destroying for the supposed better good of their country, what if anything can other countries do to stop them? China is building new coal plants every week that sends tons and tons of pollution into the air to keep up with their energy needs. Does anyone have the right to tell them that their country must not pollute when other countries are trying to clean up their act?

It is very understandable that Brazil needs more farmland and that China needs more energy sources in order for their people to have better lives, but is it right when it is at the expense of the rest of the world? These are some serious questions that the world politicians must begin to ask and find solutions to or we will all eventually suffer the consequences when our planet is not longer fit to inhabit. We must help find solutions for countries like Brazil and China who believe they have no choice but to do what they are doing. It might not really be our responsibility, but if we want to protect our planet it has to become the responsibility of someone.

We already know that there are no easy solutions to be found and in the end we all are going to have to make whatever sacrifices that are necessary to stop destroying our planet. This includes protecting our rain forests, keeping our air and water clean, preserving our wildlife, and making sure that we leave a fit place for our children and grandchildren to live. If we do not begin to make the changes now and take this huge problem seriously, it might be too late in another twenty years or even less to make a difference at all.

The World Is On Fire And The Sky Is Falling

These are two of the most spoken sayings that people use to describe something when things are bad, really, bad. Our generation has not seen things so chaotic in almost every area that you can think of. There are problems that occur one or two at a time on a lesser scale, but in the past few years Americans and others across the globe are experiencing situations that we do not know exactly how to handle and some that are simply inescapable.

When it comes to circumstances that we can not do a thing about, it would have to the weather and other natural disasters that seem to be happening at random in some places that we have hardly ever even heard of. Earthquakes in China, Japan, America, and other countries have caused chaos, death, and destruction to entire towns. Then there are volcanoes that might not have erupted yet, but are being closely watched because of past destruction and new facts that scientists have discovered about areas like the Northwestern United States just for one.

Hurricanes, tsunamis, and cyclones are running rampant the past few years as well. Even though these weather formations are relatively familiar here and there, in recent years they seem to be occurring more frequently and stronger than ever. Our ability to track and predict the strength of these storms does nothing for our ability to be able to keep them from happening, but at least we get enough advance warning to be able to evacuate where they are going to hit. It does not in any way minimize the loss of property and the destruction economically that they can leave behind.

Another serious matter that has not been seen on this scale is our current economic situation. It is not only in the United States and it is not just a passing down turn in the economy, it is a global collapse in the banking world that affects so much of our lives. People have debts that are spiraling out of control and we have a government in place that evidently does not know how to fix the problem. It seems that our individual rights are slowly being eroded in the face of these many situations and what are we doing about that?

It appears that so many things are changing all over the world and what does this mean for us? Are there things we can do to step up and change them? Is our world heading in a direction that many of us find that we might not want to go? We can not really do much about the weather or natural disasters, but we need to take a closer look at the direction our government and those around the planet are headed and make sure we put in our two cents worth before we end up in a place we might not want to be.

Recovering Logs From River Water

For years now we have all watched as our country and others are being stripped of our timberlands. We need wood for building and other things even as we are trying to learn to conserve and use other materials that can replace wood. There is one source of wood that may be limited, but is a source none the less.

For at least two hundred years the rivers in our country were used to raft logs from one place to the other. Logs were cut and then tied together to float down stream to a destination where they were needed. Many times when the river water was running very strong or they hit rapid spots along the way, these rafts would break apart and many logs were lost in the river. When the logs were green they would eventually sink to the bottom.

It has been discovered in recent years that so many of these lost logs that were sunk in the colder water of rivers are remarkably preserved similar to petrified wood, only preserved by the cold water. These logs are being recovered in many rivers today and are used to make fine furniture, hardwood flooring, and other things wood is turned into. Since these logs were usually cut many years ago from old growth forests, their wood grain is really beautiful.

This recovered timber is a little on the expensive side because it is not that simple to raise huge logs from the bottoms of rivers. Those who have under taken the task of raising this timber have also had a few hurdles to cross as far as getting permission from the proper officials to take the timber. The laws concerning salvaging things from waterways vary from state to state. There are not that many individuals and companies that have decided to try and retrieve this timber.

Even though there might not be an unlimited supply of this submerged timber, it is a good idea to try and get it out of the water and make good use of it since it is so beautiful and it has already been cut down years ago anyway. It is important that we not waste any trees from our planet anymore and this is just one small way that can save some trees that are still living. If you find an opportunity to purchase some of the products made with this timber, you will be buying a little piece of history along with it.
